Caption time! Lockhart, stock and two smoking barrels

Posted 23/10/2006 by legalweekblogs.com SU

The Diary would have a hard time filling this column if it were not for all those commercial lawyers throwing themselves out of aeroplanes or shark-diving in the Bermuda Triangle to compensate for 80-hour working weeks spent pandering to procurement officers from FTSE 350 paperclip manufacturers.

However, it is somehow refreshing to see a handful of old-school wannabe country squires keeping certain City stereotypes alive and well. Earlier this month the City Shooting Championships saw teams from the likes of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham and Eversheds donning the tweeds to gun down local wildlife and raise cash for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Shotgun-wielding sharp-shooters from Eversheds saw off all-comers to defend the title they claimed last year. However, this time the firm handed its first prize of a partridge-shooting trip in Spain to second-best Kirkpatrick, having already been there, done that and bought the proverbial flak jacket in 2005.

Kirkpatrick banking and finance partner Trevor Beadle (far left) is pictured below, alongside desperados including David Whitlock of the RBS hole-in-the-wall gang and Nicholas Allen from investment banking's answer to Ned Kelly, Macquarrie.

"And now I will demonstrate how I separate the two colleagues to my right who, as you will see, are conjoined at the temple."

"They say this here Smith & Wesson shoots good an' clean."

"Yep, sure is a darn good company Smith & Wesson."

"I hear the general counsel is even thinking of introducing e-billing."

There was a vermin problem on the estate. Worse still, they were armed.
