Briefs were in a twist earlier this month as solicitors were banned from wearing Law Society ‘What Price Justice?’ campaign badges – distributed free as part of the society’s opposition to the planned reforms of legal aid – in magistrates’ courts across the nation.
In a rousing statement, LawSoc chief tub-thumper Des Hudson expressed his “surprise” that the badges had been banned, rallying the troops with the news that he had “written to the court to seek an explanation”.
It is surely only a matter of time until lawyers will be spotted sporting those once-trendy plastic wristbands with politically correct slogans like ‘shove Carter up your articles’ and ‘free the Freshfields two'.
Meanwhile, rumours abound that the real reason for banning the ‘What Price Justice?’ badges is that the number of zeros required in the answer makes them cumbersome and impractical.
