Bevan Brittan's balloon buffoons

Posted 21/11/2006 by legalweekblogs.com SU

Bevan Brittan was last week pulling the stops out in the latest example of lawyers doing what they do best – jaw-droppingly inane stunts for charity.

The Bristol behemoth had associates on their hands and knees after their recent associate conference in a bid to break the world record for bursting 1,000 balloons in the shortest possible time. Sadly, they fell just short of the current mark of 27.12 seconds set in August 2005 (by a group of Ashfords trainees…okay, not really) but did manage to earn a couple of grand for NCH, the children’s charity.

Appropriately enough for a firm famed across the galaxy for its stellar healthcare practice, the balloon-busters were equipped with regulation-friendly ear-plugs to prevent aural damage. Whether the group’s failure to break the record was related to their inability to hear partners helpfully bellowing orders from the sidelines is unclear.

"Okay team, earplugs in. I said EARPLUGS IN!!"

"Feel my wrath, helium-filled nemesis! Mwahahaha!!"

28 seconds later...the record is safe for another year.
