In the second - and penultimate - instalment of this ongoing series, a (former) Linklaters partner offers his personal recollections of the most high-profile tax partner since...er...you know, the one in the suit.
"…The next time I remember meeting Tony was several summers later – 2002 if I’m not much mistaken, when he requested my presence along with several others chums. He seemed frightfully concerned that the corporate team was not going great guns.
"'My algorithmic data-centric performo-nometer clearly indicates that you are falling below acceptable standards on 17 variable acto-criteria,” Tony dead-panned, obviously joshing.
"'But Tony,'" I protested, playing along with the joke, "the markets are in the dumps all over the globe. You don’t have to sit me next to David, haha!'
"Tony smiled, stroking the charming white cat he had taken to keeping on his lap during meetings. Once again, I knew my counsel had provided food for thought..."
