Cock-a-hoop

Posted 23/02/2007 by The Daily Diary

Swashbuckling US outfit Howrey was in the mood for love earlier this month, spreading warm, cosy feelings around London with a cocktail party for its City lawyers on Valentine’s Day (14 February, in case you work too hard to bother with that sort of thing).

The firm certainly pushed the proverbial boat out, creating its very own cocktail recipe specifically for the occasion – a gaudy pink mix of cranberry juice and Pimm’s that was sure to get swinging solicitors feeling amorous. In a masterful piece of punning that The Diary can only applaud in heartfelt admiration, the beverage was dubbed the – wait for it – Howrey ’Freshing.

The firm was at pains to point out that beers were on hand for macho partners anxious to limit the number of umbrellas in their drinks.

However, Howrey is not the only firm to have inspired cocktail recipes. Regional favourites include Brummie staple the vodka Martineau (shaken, not stirred) and the ever-popular Sex on the Beachcroft. For a more exotic flavour try a Singapore Sling – tipple of choice at Denton Wilde Sapte and other Asia-phobic City firms – or perhaps the old magic circle classic, the Slavedriver.

The Diary’s personal favourite, however, is the Long Island Iced CC, for when you want to kick back, relax and savour those ambitious US growth plans – on the rocks.
