War of the worbs

Posted 14/02/2007 by The Daily Diary

Briefs were in a twist at Chancery Lane earlier this week after an article in The Times on possible strike action over legal aid offended delicate Law Society sensibilities.

In a patchily-proofed letter mysteriously addressed to ‘Time On-Line’, chief executive Des Hudson complains that the society was misrepresented despite providing a (very) extensive statement apparently overlooked in the report.

Fair enough; you can’t expect Chancery Lane to be precise about details like the name of obscure publications like The Times.

You can download the letter here, although you might have to scroll down the page a bit to find the right link.

“Given the attention you newspaper [sic] places on the legal profession,” the letter rages on illiterately, “I hope you will share my concerns and agree that urgently correcting the incomplete report will be in everyone’s interest.”

Evidently not the only time this week the society has blown a fuse.
