The Diary has started a watching brief for those rare legal blogs that don’t descend into 'poor me' whinging from City lawyers and so has turned once more to the always-readable Corporate Blawg.
The latest installment of the law blogs that occasionally remembers to write about law features a memorable discussion on the man/woman divide as expressed through the comparable experience of going to see chick-lit Austen rompathon 'Becoming Jane' with the missus...before dragging her to see Gladiator-on-steroids flick '300' in revenge.
The resulting marital tension provokes the author to try sketching out marriage vows for corporate lawyers, thieved thusly:
"Do you [insert his name] take [insert her name] to be your partner for life – to enjoy a legal and equitable benefit, in trust in perpetuity, and contracted to domicile in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you always use your best endeavours to comfort her? Will you act in every way possible (other than crime) to maintain her honor? In personal injury and having reached all milestones and service levels, for consideration, and for taxation, in completion and in down-tools, to procure compliance with all safety regulations, and to bestow on [her/him/it] your reasoning and greatest consideration, forsaking all others to whom it may be profitable, and to keep yourself exclusively with [her/him/it] as long as you both shall live, [optional - and then beyond too if possible under any religion which has such jurisdiction*]?
*provided no additional or onerous terms and conditions are imputed upon this agreement."
The vow generates several thoughtful responses on Corporate Blawg’s witty allusions that go far over The Diary’s head. Still, your correspondent can at least safely venture that '300' creator Frank Miller has been churning out rubbish since 'Year One'. Readers who want to see more Corporate Blawg can click here.
