You don’t have to be Deidre Sanders, world-famous agony aunt at The Sun, to know that relationships are hard work. However, UK law firms are seemingly more prone to domestic dingdongs than most.
Like an over-possessive partner, the UK firm has taken to snaring potential Continental spouses under the guise of it being a ‘causal thing’ before swiftly upping the ante and trying to jam a ring on to a reluctant finger.
“We had a good relationship,” lamented one partner at newly independent German firm Buse Heberer Fromm, which recently endured a tearful break-up with Field Fisher Waterhouse.
“It worked really well but then they wanted to tie the knot,” he sobbed to The Diary. “We have seen a lot of UK firms take over German firms and did not want to go that route and we thought Field Fisher did not want that either. It seems UK firms are all the same.”
You might call it a one-stop mind.
