Pageant provocateur

Posted 18/04/2007 by The Daily Diary

It must be nice to take real pride in your work. Knowing you have helped keep a former dictator responsible for the deaths of thousands out of jail, say, must really give you a warm inner glow on a chilly November morn.

Top trademark firm Marks & Clerk was feeling particularly pleased with itself yesterday (17 April) after successfully getting Channel Four to change the name of its latest contribution to high culture – a transgender beauty pageant filmed in Thailand last year and due to hit TV screens in the UK last night.

The contest – which was originally to be titled, rather amusingly, Mister Miss World – was renamed, rather confusingly, Mister Miss Pageant, after those politically correct folk at the actual Miss World contest objected to the broadcaster using their name and called in Marks.

Presumably they felt there might be something a bit tacky about getting people to parade around in their smalls for the viewing pleasure of others, unless they are women of course.

Another blow for equality struck!
