Pull the other one

Posted 2/05/2007 by The Daily Diary

Today’s pictures come from last month’s sports day at the York branch of the College of Law, held in typically balmy northern sunshine on 28 April.

Pictured are teams from Leeds powerhouse Walker Morris (below) and national leviathan Eversheds (a bit further below) in the tug of war.

National rivals Addleshaw Goddard and DLA Piper also got stuck in with some sporting chicanery of their own, in action that was doubtless as “fiercely competitive” as that Leeds market you hear so much about.

For The Diary’s money, Yorkshire lawyers’ cherished 'hardman of law' reputation has been somewhat tarnished by the concept of competitive netball, but colleagues have pointed out that it’s OK to ponce about like a big girl if it’s for a good cause.

The so-called ‘Tug of Law’ was a new addition to the annual jamboree, which also featured rugby and netball events as well as some good-natured charidee type stuff for the local hospital.

Rumours that the contest was an excuse for the College to get in some practice ahead of its tug-of-love with BPP over the City LPC consortium remain, er, probably true actually.

Walker Morris attempts to rope in some more spectators before the Tug of Law...

...while Eversheds' attempt at the famous 'Indian rope trick' is only a partial success.
