The last time hundreds of militant lawyers took to the streets it was to complain about the carpets in the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer reception (or legal aid, or something).
Earlier this week (14 May), however, 1,800 of the profession’s finest were marching as one to raise cash for London’s various legal advice charities.
The third London Legal sponsored walk boasted a line-up more glittering than Mr T’s jewelry cabinet, including representatives from 23 of the UK’s top 25 law firms. The Diary won’t say which two firms didn’t take part…as we don’t actually know – but shame on you anyway.
Even without the stay-away duo, the walk raised a whopping £175,000 for its various beneficiaries, most of it coming from loose change in the pockets of those City partners taking part.
Pictured below, although not in this deliberately confusing order, are the Lord Chief Justice, the Master of the Rolls, Bar Council chair Geoffrey Vos QC, ILEX president Alan Caig and star Legal Village blogger Fiona Woolf.
In other words, page one of The Diary’s contacts book.
