Krossed swords at Kanary Wharf

Posted 23/07/2007 by The Daily Diary

It’s a well known fact that law firms supplying superior baked goods to their lawyers have cheerier (if less streamlined) staff.

Such morale-management is not without its pitfalls, however. Mere weeks after The Diary lifted the lid on some chocolate-chip controversy at Atlantic House, news reaches your correspondent that Lovells is not the only City firm to suffer from confectionary-based discord.

Cake-related rumblings of disapprobation have now been heard at the Canary Wharf command-beacon of global goliath Clifford Chance (CC), where rival practice groups have been squabbling over precious donuts.

Apparently CC’s capital markets team has long been the recipient of a weekly batch of Krispy Kreme donuts from a grateful client. However, the super-sugary treats have now caught the beady eyes of the securitisation team, who recently swooped to collect ‘their share’ of the spoils.

The firm’s 24th and 25th floors are now locked in deadly battle over the doughy delights, although the Krispy Kremes themselves are sure to have gone stale long before this stalemate is resolved.
