The Diary has noticed before the abundance of Davids in the upper echelons of commercial law – with Messrs Childs, Cheyne, Morley, Harris, Frank, Gray and Gold all occupying senior managerial roles at their respective top 10 legal Goliaths.
New research from recruitment group Bandenoch & Clark has produced hard evidence that Davids do indeed get ahead best in law, with that emerging as the most popular name on their 11,500-strong database of qualified solicitors.
The top 10 names include other Biblical favourites such as John, Paul and Sarah – strangely, the only female name in the top group – but a worrying lack of Tristrams, Quentins and Tarquins (or should that be Tarquii?).
The times are indeed a-changing.
