« Hun, drawn and quartered | Black sabbatical | City chief's cattle battle »

Summertime (you know, the muggy bit between downpours of biblical severity) is here and that means sabbatical season. Big-hitters including Linklaters capital markets chief Nick Eastwell and Slaughter and May corporate sharpshooter Andy Ryde are among those taking an extended break, as is Olswang media guru David Zeffman.
However, one old-school partner this week poured scorn on the notion of a recreational sabbatical, doddering down Memory Lane to remind The Diary how much better things were in his day.
“I remember when another partner spent the summer working with the Inland Revenue and he absolutely loved it,” the partner mused between Werther’s Originals. “That’s what sabbaticals were intended for – not holidays.”
Six months with the Inland Revenue? Sounds like a hoot to The Diary.
