« Lord of the non-flyers | Head to head | Unproductive phone call of the week »

Tall tales reach The Diary this week of an interesting chat between the esteemed senior partner of a top City firm and the London chief of a US giant, both of whom will sadly have to remain unnamed for now (there’s only so many high-powered lawyers you can upset in one week).
The senior partner had earlier been unpleasantly surprised to receive a call from a head-hunter idly wondering if he’d be interested in walking out on his fee earning family and taking the (somewhat devalued) Yankee dollar.
He promptly called up his counterpart at the US firm in a rage, ranting that he would “never be interested in joining [his two-bob, good-for-nothing] firm” in a million years.
All of which came as something of a shock to the US head – who, it seems, had no intention of taking him on anyway.
