Homeland security

Posted 24/09/2007 by The Daily Diary

The Diary was recently dispatched on a covert operation to take some snaps for the Legal Week photo library. Covert because the ultra-sensitivity of some City firms to having their picture taken reminds one of those tribes that believe taking a photograph of someone steals their soul. Not that that would be much of a problem for City lawyers.

Ashurst, Hammonds and (shock!) Slaughter and May were among the most camera-shy, with unblinking security personnel cunningly swamping LW snappers in reams of waivers and application forms before they could get off even a single shot.

One tenant at the fancy More London development even wanted to charge Legal Week for using pictures our own lens-man had taken – although we’ll leave readers to guess which of Norton Rose and LG felt they needed the extra income the most.

Most elusive of all, surprisingly, was media-savvy Olswang – although that’s because Legal Week navigators sent the photographer to the firm’s old address. Oops.
