Canning-do attitude

Posted 16/10/2007 by The Daily Diary

As Barlow Lyde & Gilbert consoles itself over the departure of top-rated litigating glamour-puss Clare Canning, The Diary was left wondering if the firm had embarked upon a dirty-tricks campaign to muddy the waters surrounding her resignation.

Following an innocent enquiry as to whether Canning worked part-time or full-time for the City hot-shots, a source at the firm suggested that she must be part-time because she “is in therapy” on Fridays.

Such red-hot gossip was obviously music to the ears of Legal Week’s scoop-hungry newshound, who was poised, feathered quill in hand, to break the latest ‘Lawyer crumbles under pressure of work’ sensation.

However, the source soon called back to point out that in fact Canning gives psychotherapy on Fridays. The revised headline now reads: ‘Mad person pays lawyer for sympathy’.
