Security personnel at Freshfields are on high-alert as sources suggest the Grey Panthers crime syndicate masterminded by former partner and arch nemesis Peter Bloxham – aka Doktor Blokhead – has been “quiet… almost too quiet”.

Rumours abound that Blokhead is working on a Doomsday Device from his underground lair several miles beneath the Prudential that would instantly make all UK citizens eligible for beneficial pension arrangements at Freshfields’ expense.

Meanwhile, top brass at Herbert Smith are nonplussed as accusations fly that rivals have nicked the idea for Herbies’ wildly successful Make A Difference campaign to boost partner performance.

Ashurst claims its Make A Different Sort of Difference scheme is wholly unrelated, while Hammonds says its innovative Make A Profit For Once programme has theoretically been in place for years.
