In-house lawyers the world over know that in this age of eagle-eyed regulators and all that Sarbanes Oxley stuff, its important to maintain one’s moral compass.
Former Samsung in-houser KimYong-chul – who alleged in November that the tech conglomerate had created a $221m (£111m) slush fund to bribe Korean officials – received a boost to his own moral standing from a divine source… in the form of a group of Catholic priests.
Yong-chul’s claims – which target former Samsung executive and presidential aide Kim Song-ho and were rejected by the company as “absurd” and “groundless” – this week received backing from seven members of the Catholic Priests Association for Justice. Which is nice.
In a nationally televised news conference, Reverend Jeon Jong-hun said the alleged activities were “like inviting devils into the house”.
Still, that’s surely more cost-effective than using external demons.
